Mind-Body connections and the moments that make us

The concept of a mind-body connection is relatively new if you take a look at the long history of Psychology and all the ways experts have approached mental wellness.

Mind-body connection can be very loosely defined as the concept that your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and experiences have an impact on your overall physical wellness.

By now, you may be wondering what that has to do with us here at Memories In Writing. In short -- everything.

You see, if your physical well-being and your quality of life on the physical health front can be tied directly to the things you've experienced, then it would make sense that tapping into those memories, thoughts and beliefs can as well.

There's a very popular book called The Body Keeps The Score, written by Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. The author is regarded as one of the United States's most experienced doctors studying emotional trauma. The book, understandably focuses on how trauma, be it trauma of war or childhood circumstance or nearly anything else, impacts the way we face each day after it.

The book is a fascinating way to learn about your challenges and the things that triggered them.

But perhaps, more interestingly for many of us, it can also be a window into the way our beautiful moments and memories have impacted your growth and helped you thrive along the way. Because if each cause has an effect, then certainly those that imprinted beauty on our hearts are not exempt.

Looking back at a life isn't always beautiful. To do so, we must face loss and grief; heartbreak and anger. But we also get to dive back into comfort, peace, moments of deep love and monumental growth.

That's what our team at Memories In Writing wants to help you do. We are here to guide you or your loved ones back through the moments that made you, be they difficult or warm. It can be tough to know how or where to start with such an endeavor, but it's a deep pool worth diving into.
